      H. L. Hix’s most recent poetry book, God Bless, is a “political/ poetic discourse” chronicling the Bush administration through sonnets and sestinas and villanelles composed of quotations from Bush speeches, intermingled with poems paraphrasing arguments from
bin Laden speeches, and complemented by interviews with scholars, journalists, and poets. His previous collection, Chromatic, was a finalist for the National
Book Award.
